A New Me...

The last couple of years I have tried losing weight without success. I had a hard time sticking to it and staying motivated. Trav and I did a stint with HCG drops that worked really well, However, after a few months of being back to eating regularly, I let my eating habits take over. Needless to say, this area of my life has been a real concern and depressor for me. When we learned that we were going to DisneyWorld this summer, I decided I really wanted to do something about my health. I wanted to be in better shape (and skinnier) by the time we went to DisneyWorld. Some of our friends decided to have a "Biggest Loser" competition from January until April, with weekly and monthly prizes. Some weight has been coming off. However, it has been a real struggle with me. I have had lots of support and encouragement from family and friends. My sister sent me lots of great exercises to do at the gym and other weightloss tips and ideas.

So, my adorable sister and brother were talking about ways to help me. My sister suggested to my brother that he talk to me about Jorge Cruise "8 Minutes in the Morning for EASY Weightloss". At Sunday dinner last week, Michael showed me the book and talked to me about it. The whole idea is doing 8 minutes of strength/muscle training six days a week. This creates more lean muscle tissue, which in turn burns more fat and tones/strengthens muscles. The other part of Jorge's plan it eating nutritionally, NOT emotionally. This is all about portion control. Take a plate and divide it in half';  the top half should be filled with vegetables and/or fruit. The bottom half should be divided in half again; one bottom half is filled with protein and the other half is filled with a carbohydrate. Jorge's plan also has you eating a small, healthy snack every 3 hours (between meals). One of those snacks SHOULD be a small treat. If you follow this program, you are GUARANTEED to lose 2lbs a week; a healthy weight loss.

Before you even start, Jorge teaches you the reasoning behind the program. He also goes through the importance/power of self-respect and acceptance of your body. No mater how much weight you lose/gain, if you don't truly accept & respect yourself, you will not be happy. There are some writing exercises to help you think/work through this.  You also set a goal of how much weight you need to lose to be healthy and you also set mini-goals to help you reach that goal.

My goal:  Lose 62 lbs.   Date  I will reach my ideal weight: October 22, 2011

Mini-goals:
April 22: 201 lbs
June 22: 185 lbs
August 22: 169 lbs

This is a 28 day program. So, if you have more weight to lose than 4 weeks worth, you repeat the cyle as many times as needed. I was so excited when I heard this because I knew I could stick with it because I wasn't depriving myself of food that I love or counting calories. I can take 8-10 minutes in the morning to do the exercises without feeling pressured to find more time in the day. My goal is still to go to the gym 3-4 days a week for cardio exercise. Needless to say, I came home on Sunday night ordered the book on Amazon and ANXIOUSLY waited for it to get here. I started the program on Thursday morning, even though it suggests you start on a Monday and have Sundays off. I did the first 3 days of exercises, will take Sunday off, and start again with Day 1 on Monday.

It is recommended to only weigh once a week & to do body measurements frequently instead. Your body weight might not change because of added muscle tissue, but your shape/inches will change. However, I find right now, it is EXTREMELY motivating for me to weigh every single morning.

My sister, in talking to her, suggested that maybe I blog about it. I don't care if anyone else
reads it. However, it is a way to hold myself accountable; a place where I can list successes and weaknesses as I go through this journey. If anyone does read this and feels the inclination to be supportive, it would be gladly accepted.

And now for some successes and weaknesses of my first few days:

-Threw a doughnut away without a second thought on Thursday.
-Wore my VERY OWN (instead of Trav's) belt on Friday, it wasn't in very many holes, but it was mine!
-Dropped 3 lbs from Monday on Friday- I am smaller than I have been in months

-Ate some cereal later on last night, while playing cards with friends. Gained .2 on (Sat. morning)

Good for you! I so need to cut down on my sugar and pop intake. I've been eating tons of sweets since Sam broke her leg. Of course she's getting lighter, which really means I'm getting stronger. Maybe I'll have to check out that book too...I could use some pointers right now.

Good luck!

I know you can do this Jacqueline! If you want something bad enough you WILL do it! Any goal big or small is hard but if you really put your heart in it you will do it! My mom has a saying in her kitchen to motivate her that says "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels." Good Luck, I know you can do this!

We are very excited for you! Just as an FYI, Rachel deserves ALL of the credit with Jorge, she was the one who introduced me to it.
