Our New Purchase....

Trav has been wanting a  digital SLR camera FOREVER!! After spending the weekend down in St. George with friends that BOTH had one, this was a done deal for him. I kept waiting for him to tell me that he wanted one and we had to figure out a way to do it; It happened on Saturday  afternoon while we were at Valley of Fire.

Needless to say, we came home and have been brainstorming what we could do to make it work to get a camera. I suggested that we take some of the money out of our vacation fund to pay for the camera,  because this is totally something that will make vacations better and help preserve the memories. Trav also took his allowance money that he has been saving for a new stereo (with Ipod capabilities) in the Suburban and put it towards the camera. He decided he wanted an SLR camera, more than he wanted the new stereo. I also contributed my money from this week's allowance to help pay for it, since I will love and benefit from it, too!

Yesterday was the big day!!! We  went to Inkley's and Riverdale. Originally, we were planning on buying a Nikkon in a package deal. After talking with the store manager (very knowledgeable), we decided to go with the Sony. It is lighter, there is less mechanics (less likely to break), mechanics are built into the camera base vs. in the lenses, and lenses are cheaper for the Sony. Also, in the last year, Sony has revolutionized SLR cameras and has found a better way build them. The Sony shoots 7 frames per second vs. Nikkon's 3 frames per second.  It didn't cost much more than the Nikkon, so to us it was worth it. We also got 4 free classes that we can take together on Saturdays.

Trav was so excited to get it home and use it. However, the battery took 4 hours to charge. We had dinner plans last night, so he wasn't able to play with it until about 10:30. It was like Christmas for him. Long after I had gone to bed, I could see flashes going off in the family room. Trav also got up and  took pictures of Mazie outside this morning. He has been reading the manual and playing around with the camera.

How exciting! I'd really like to get an SLR eventually too. It's good to know all that info about the Sony.
