Once again, she said it so beautifully.....
I'm going to share some of the things that I've learned from these amazing women.
Family IS the most important. Just saying this is not enough but their lives are testaments that they believe this. There is not a time that they think of themselves before their families. Jody and I talk a lot about perceptions and people's perceptions of themselves and how it relates to reality. For instance, does what they say match up with what they do. In the case of these amazing women, it is the same. They LOVE their families! It is displayed in every aspect of their lives. From the pictures all over their houses to the phone calls to say "I love you", it is everywhere.
I've learned (well, still trying to) to respect other peoples differences. It's okay that everyone doesn't think like I do or may not agree with me, but I can love them unconditionally and help them to feel that. In my own life, I've felt my mother's love even when she didn't agree with my choices.
Life is meant to be fun. They are all hardworkers! No matter the task, always willing to help. However, they all know how to have a good laugh and find humor in the day. My mom's famous Targhee flyer says "A family that plays together, stays together".
The gospel is important. They may not be scriptorians, but I have no doubt that the they know The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true. It is evident in how they have fulfilled a variety of callings, no matter how big or small; how they not only teach the importance of eternal families, but have dedicated their lives to cementing those relationships. They go about living their lives in a Christ-like way-reaching out to their neighbor, caring for the sick and the needy, tending to their families, donating to the poor-Every day trying to improve themselves.
Being a good hostess. Dinner parties are/were a common occurrence, whether it be the casual BBQ or a formal sit-down meal, I've learned to be a hostess. Some would like to tease that food is a very important part of all the family gatherings/vacations, which might be true. However, I'm grateful for examples of how to have an inviting home that is comforting and loving-a place that others want to be.
I'm so grateful for the examples that have been shared with me. Most importantly, I'm grateful that my daughters have such a loving and caring grandma and great-grandma. I would have never been able to appreciate my mom and grandma to this degree without having witnessed them with my own children. It's so fun to have them be a part of our girls lives and to be excited with us as they reach their different milestones. I'm so grateful for the love and support they offer to me as a mother. I definitely have a greater appreciation for all that a mother does now that I have children of my own.
